Program details and availability
Gilcrease Museum welcomes school groups to learn about art and history through our unique collection. We offer free guided tours, transportation assistance, and will even bring some of our collection to your school.Art Sense Museum Experiences

Recommended Grade Levels: 3rd grade through 8th grade
Explore Gilcrease Museum using all five senses! That's right - all five senses! This multi-sensory approach to the permanent collection can include: smelling a Mexican flower market, listening to a raging thunderstorm or feeling a porcupine quills used for quillwork all while looking at the museum's art and artifacts. (Themed recipes are provided for at-home tasting - we don't recommend licking anything at the museum!) Art Sense Museum Experiences are available for elementary through middle school students and can be scheduled in the following galleries: Ancient Americas, Enduring Spririt: Plains Indians, the Southwest and the American West.

Group Size: 48 students or less
Recommended Grade Levels: 4th Grade-8th Grade
Docents will lead students through the special exhibition and related galleries using techniques such as storytelling, compare/contrast and questioning while incorporating aspects of Oklahoma history. Tour themes include: Native American art, history and culture. Tours will complement suchas PASS ojectives as: The Student will recognize the development of visual art from an historical and cultural perspective; THe student will identify themes and purposes of works of art and artifacts in history and culture; The student will demonstrate an understanding of the unique features which contributed to the settlement of the state of Oklahoma; The student will review and strengthen geographic skills.

Group Size: up to 24 students
Recommended Grade Levels: K through 12th Grade
Museum Experiences are activity-based and student-centered. Activities include sketching in the Enduring Spirit Galleries, completing Ledger Book Art Hunts in the ledger book exhibition and learning about Cheyenne culture during a Kravis Culture Connection in teh Kravis Discovery Center. We emphasize inquiry-based learning during Museum Experiences so enthusiastic student participation is essential! Museum Experiences can incorporate aspects of pre- and post-visit projects as outlined in the Educator's Resource Guide. To request an Educator's Resource Guide, please click here. Self-guided Visits can be scheduled during regular Museum hours and are based on gallery availability.
